How to properly clean a cutting board?

Did you know that washing your cutting board in soapy water is not the right way to clean it? In fact, using soapy water won’t clean it at all. Why? There are a lot of small cuts in a cutting board which can store bacteria – and a sponge and soapy water won’t get in there.

You need to be careful with cutting boards since they can easily become a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria which can cause food poisoning and other serious problems! This is why you need to know how to properly clean your cutting board as well as disinfect it!

How to properly clean a cutting board? How to disinfect it?

The first thing that needs to be done is rinsing the board. That way any food residue will be removed. Then you can soak a cloth in vinegar and scrub the cutting board.

Continue with pouring hydrogen peroxide all over the board – let it sit for a few minutes so that it can get rid of the germs and rinse well.

If there are any stains on the board you should scrub it with salt and lemon juice. I usually sprinkle salt, cut a lemon in half, and scrub the board with one half of the lemon.
